Rebeka Khan Artwear

Blog

Bespoke Irish Artwear, each hand-crafted creation a unique fusion of ceramic, glass, and inspiration.  Creating beautiful Neckpieces, Bracelets & Earrings.

Every work of art has a story and this one is no different...

From her home studio in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains, (Ireland), ceramicist Rebeka Kahn creates bewitching neckpieces, earrings and bracelets, each one incorporating uniquely sculpted ceramic and glass elements inspired by her surroundings.

Each piece of Rebeka Kahn jewellery is just as unique as the person who ends up wearing it. Every ceramic element in every creation is singularly hand-crafted, glazed & fired in Rebeka's home studio.

Every piece receives the individual attention from the artist that the wearer deserves. We add glazes and glass to each ceramic element, and double-fire them in our own kilns, or outdoors in dramatic, large naked flames! "Raku".
By hand forming each piece and carefully selecting the right glaze (sometimes altered by us by adding ingredients to change a colour or texture) and glass, this allows us to control every aspect of the design, from inspiration right through to the final polish. Of course, some things you can't control. Like the natural elements that inspire the designs, glass and ceramics often have a mind of their own, and natural reactions in the firing process often create effects we hadn't dreamed of, and inspire new designs in turn. It all conspires to make every piece an individual work of art!

Join my blog Rebeka Khan Artwear news where I talk about all things! Where the business is going, how I come to make some of my pieces, the day to day experiences of working with clay and the firing techniques. How some results I get are exciting and inspirational and how others are not so much so!

Personalised bespoke pieces or collection of pieces can be made to order to suit your own specific requirements.

Little Miss Julia

Blog

On the Little Miss Julia blog I provide helpful tips for using hair accessories in your girl’s hair; I introduce products and services I love that are great finds for girls, moms or both and talk about varied and fun topics and news. I enjoy sharing information with my readers and look forward to comments in response to any given post.

Bio

I started making barrettes for my daughter because I could not find pretty, good quality accessories for girls in the store. As she started wearing them people started to comment on “how cute they were” and there was such a positive response that I decided to form a company and sell them. From that Little Miss Julia was born.  I believe a girl’s hair should always look pretty. I enjoy creating accessories that add to the beauty of any girl’s hairstyle. My goal is that my customers feel they have an accessory that completes their girl’s total look.

Heart's Desire Jewellery

Blog

Award winning jewelry designer, Ann Marie Hodrick writes about the creative process behind her handcrafted jewelry designs, info on birthstones, gemstone lore and facts and current trends in fashion.  The blog is incorporated into her websiteheartsdesirejewelry.com.  I would love it if you would have a look and leave a comment.

Bio

I've been a creative creature since birth and discovered my passion for channeling my creativity into jewelry design about five years ago.  Since then I have been translating inspirations from my world (I live across the bay from San Francisco in Oakland) and my love of fashion and its current trends into my jewelry designs.  I have just launched a new website to sell my designs and started up as a newbie blogger to add more info to the site.  I am married to a wonderful man and the mother of two teen boys (all of who just don't understand my obsession with jewelry) and work as a video editor for a major US news organization.  That's enough to keep me busy most days :)

Sisterhood award

The womens blogger directory has been nominated again for the sisterhood award!

My apologies to Lucy (scribble city central) and Pamposh(wandering pam) for the delay in posting this, I have been so busy lately at home that I really didn't get a chance to do it sooner, and my thanks to you both for nominating the womens blogger directory for this award.

And now to pass it on! again this is such a hard decision for me, running this directory and my other sites takes up a lot of time and unfortunately I am left with little spare time to read all the members blogs, though I would love to.

I have chosen the following two blogs because they are family related and as a mother I can relate aspects of both in different ways:

The Embassy wife - author Kelly Armstrong
I found from your blog that no matter where you are in the world - family is family, the up and downs, the mis-adventures in cooking and they joy of family no matter where, when or how.

Willow dreams - author Letita Bellhouse
Because in one way or another many of us have taken a similar journey and sometimes we have to face our situation and work through it and make the right decision for ourselves and our own families. I love the honesty of your story.

Thanks everyone and please remember to visit these four womens blogs,

The Embassy Wife

Blog

I've spent the last 15 years traveling around the globe as a "dependent spouse" of my Foreign Service husband who works in Embassies and Consulates around the globe.  "Ahh!" You say, "A diplomat's life.  How romantic!"  I say, "Ha."  Come visit my blog to see what life is really like for an Embassy Wife:  roosters that incite me to thoughts of violence, exploding laundry soap, earthquakes, volcanoes, and a 9-step process to get a cell phone.  I blog regularly as The Embassy Wife at http://kellyarmstrong.pnn.comabout our current adventures in Central America.

Bio

I grew up in South Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University, all while suffering from a near-terminal case of wanderlust.  After graduation, I joined the Foreign Service, married a like-minded man and we took off for the wilds of Frankfurt, Germany.  That was in 1993, and we've hardly been back since.    We've lived in Germany (twice), Israel, Indonesia, Croatia, and are now in Costa Rica with our three sons.

This blog is more on the personal side of things. It's about growing up as a Chinese American as well as culture/the acceptance of cultures/prejudices/human conflict. I'm a people watcher and I love to analyze the things people do. This is where I put most of my thoughts. (side note: It's also got a lot of highlights from speeches by our current President! He's definitely an amazing speaker!)

About 4 years ago my knees began to ache so much that it hindered my ability to continue dancing. I had to quit. Entering college I had no idea what I was going to do in it's stead. Then my room mate introduced me to photography. I'm now an addict!! I love it and hope to become professional sometime in the near future. I love blogging even though I find that I don't have a ton of time for it. I also LOVE networking and meeting new people! Hence, I have joined this group!! My personal/photography blog. I'm a bit more of a talker. It was supposed to be a photography only blog for people to come and critique my photography. Unfortunately I only have friends and family coming to look at the blog so I don't get any raw feedback from people. I want constructive criticism since I've taught myself everything that I know about photography from reading books and going out and experimenting.

Object Wisdom

Blog

We all know the unexamined life is not worth living. But what about the unexamined toaster oven? Is it worth living with? If we are what we eat, are we also what we own? My blog is my effort to find out, to become an anthropologist of my own material culture, a detective of my own history. My goal is to reflect on everything I own - from pill bottles to pillow cases, from death notices to DVDs--with all the insight and honesty I can muster. Some posts are long and serious, others short and silly; some explore the deeply personal, others the wonderful, crazy world we all share...in every case, the thing itself decides. I hope you'll find something interesting, amusing, or thought-provoking in these stories, and that you, too, will be inspired to spend a few minutes looking at the things that surround you, taking stock.

I am a writer and educator living in the Midwest.  I love language, the American West, traveling, books, deserts, art, and cats. Despite the subject of my blog --  things -- I'm not much of a shopper.  (It appalls me that anyone would spend $3000 for a purse. I'd much rather take a trip or buy and acre of land.)  But things also come laden with memories and meaning, which I explore in my blog, Object Wisdom:

Flourishing Today

Blog

If someone came to you and offered the best advice in the world, but you were not in a place to receive it, would you listen? What would it take to get you to be in a place where you would?

No matter who you are, or what your life looks like; you are just as deserving of value, honor and respect. Now it is about creating a life that allows you to honor and respect yourself – that when you look in the mirror, you like what and whom you see. After that, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, does it?

She decided to leave a career path in psychology and started her education ministry in 2003 after running support groups and working in the Mental Health field in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was inspired to make this shift after hearing clients' frustration after years of therapy: "So I know WHY I'm messed up. Now what?"

Since then her mission has been to help people answer that question through education and empowerment: giving people the tools to design their future and establish healthy relationships. She has been on television and written articles on relationships, integration of science & spirituality, and life in a dualistic world. The Charm House

Blog

The Charm House is a blog that captures my day to day life. Now for me that can be spent in the studio creating works of art, in the garden digging away in the soil, turning a room upside down to create a new look, going to goodwill or the antique mall, or being with loved ones!  What ever it is, I try to capture every moment that God grants me with enthusiasm and hope that I am doing His will in my life. I believe that He gifted me The Charm House years ago and it was a thought that has been growing into a creation of itself.  I see God using it to glorify Him in a powerful way one day if He is not already doing it. But in a way where women can come together to create, communicate and just bond as friends. I know and I have seen that God can do great things through blogs! And I love being a part of this great community!

Laura Marie Speaks...er' blogs

Blog

Blog of Texas singer/songwriter, Laura Marie. Mother, runner, fitness and healthy living enthusiast  blogs about life, love and music.

Bio

Laura Marie was born and raised on the songs of The Pretenders, The Police and Carole King. She credits her lyric writing habit as the reason for initially dropping out of the University of Texas at Austin. Her first full-length solo CD titled, Drawn was released in 2007 and was co-produced by five-time Grammy nominated producer, Mack Damon. Fans are quickly hooked on her own brand of pop-folk songwriting. Her lyrics are both touching and personal. Laura Marie gets to the heart of the matter with a voice somewhat familiar, yet distinctly her own.

A native, San Antonian, Laura Marie performed and recorded with local bands Sofa Kingdom and Things Between and, in her spare time, did voice over and backing vocal work in a number of local studios. She graduated from St. Mary's University with a degree in music education and was a grade school choir director before giving in to her compulsive lyric writing habit and becoming a full time musician.

Her debut CD, Drawn (2007) was produced by Grammy-nominated Texas music producer Mack Damon. She is currently in pre-production for her follow up CD to be recorded in 2009. Look for a preliminary single due out in late 2008. As a songwriter, she is known for her poignant and striking wordplay (“Wait,” “In Code,” “Still") while her smooth vocal style has been described as 'smooth as 100 year-old scotch'.

Laura Marie's music has been favorably compared to songwriters Norah Jones, Natalie Merchant, Shawn Colvin and John Mayer.

A multi-colored life

Blog

I am an animal and equine artist living in rural Ohio Amish Country.  I infuse color and vibrancy into the faces I paint while sharing with my viewers the creative process and artistic life.  Horses, animals, farm life, nature, rural life style and family are the main themes and inspiration in my life.  I allow myself off shoots of artistic experimentation and venture into other subjects, themes etc. as the mood dictates which are shared on my blog.

Bio

I am a self taught artist best know in my hometown for the life sized horse and farm animal murals I have painted at Lehman’s in Kidron, Ohio a well known travel destination for visitors to Amish Country.  I often conduct painting demonstrations there as well as at my art studio in Canton, Ohio during their First Friday art events.
